treating wounds with
a balance of science
and shared humanity

As humans, we are influenced by the events in our lives. Often, and especially when what we experienced was particularly awful, our reactions to memories may become intense and enduring. We can start to feel haunted or infected. This may look like post traumatic stress disorder, but it may also look like anxiety, burnout, OCD, a high-stress-high-success life, or any myriad of presentations. It’s tempting to just want to focus on managing the symptoms in therapy - but, here’s the thing: I would rather treat the trauma response so you aren’t stuck exhausting your time and energy with managing fear reactions. In therapy here, I won’t put a bandaid on a wound and send you on your way. We will create a trusting, empowering relationship, while understanding, addressing, and treating the nature of the wound, together.

I have been working with trauma responses in therapeutic settings for over a decade, and am trained in multiple evidence-based approaches (from exposure therapy to EMDR). I most frequently work with survivors of sexual assault, as well as medical professionals experiencing the unavoidable trauma of their field. I also have experience with natural disasters, car crashes, police brutality, outdoor adventure accidents, medical trauma, hate crimes, and all kinds of interpersonal violence. And, if your trauma isn’t nicely packaged in one single life-changing moment? That’s workable too. You can still choose how you want to rewrite the narrative of your life.

I am often asked what it is that I like about working with particularly heavy issues. My answer has three parts: I believe that all pain deserves to be taken seriously, I know that trauma is highly treatable, and, because I’ve seen it work for so many, I am able to approach each client’s unique situation with creativity and optimism. I look forward to learning more about your story and finding out if I might be the right person to help build your plan.
